The incident, which took place last month, resulted in the plant being offline for four days. Despite the disruption, UK authorities assured that the incident did not endanger the broader electricity network or the national energy supply.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero highlighted that the generator affected by the cyberattack was a small-scale facility. It stressed that the UK’s overall energy infrastructure remains secure and robust. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) confirmed that there have been no reports of outages impacting major, regulated power stations.
This incident occurs against a backdrop of increasing tensions between the UK and Iran. The UK has permitted the United States to conduct defensive operations against Iran from American-operated bases within its territory. In response, Iran has issued warnings that bases involved in attacks on its soil might be deemed legitimate targets.
