A new initiative aimed at bolstering food security in Yemen has been launched through a collaboration between Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian arm, KSrelief, and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The two entities have committed to a $10 million project designed to support vulnerable populations and enhance long-term resilience in the region.

The project, which will be implemented by the UN World Food Programme, involves a joint financial contribution of $5 million each from KSrelief and the UK. It will focus on several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij, with a strategy that includes providing conditional cash transfers to improve food access.

By facilitating these cash transfers, the initiative aims to restore critical productive infrastructure and assist families in moving from dependence on emergency food aid to achieving greater self-reliance. This effort also encompasses vocational training programs and support for local governance to enhance the sustainable management of community resources.

In addition to addressing immediate food security needs, the project seeks to empower local authorities and improve overall governance structures, ensuring that community assets are managed sustainably. These measures are part of a broader strategy to build resilience against future crises and support long-term development in the region.

This agreement is a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian outreach through KSrelief, which has been active since 2015. The organization has executed over 4,400 aid projects across 113 countries, with a total investment exceeding $8.5 billion, underscoring its commitment to global humanitarian efforts.
