UK Assures Stable Diesel Supply Amid Concerns Over US Export Limits

by admin477351

The UK government is addressing concerns over diesel supply stability amidst fears of potential US fuel export restrictions. Transport Minister Keir Mather reassured the public that the UK’s fuel network is resilient, with diverse import sources ensuring a steady diesel flow. The UK sources around 30% of its diesel from the United States, but the majority comes from mainland Europe, supported by reserves equivalent to 42 days of demand.

Despite the looming maintenance at Fawley, the UK’s largest refinery, which might shut it down for up to 10 weeks, Mather emphasized that the government is collaborating with European partners and US officials to maintain diesel supplies. The UK, now with only four operational refineries compared to 18 in the 1980s, is also considering releasing emergency diesel reserves in coordination with European countries.

As diesel prices hit a record 199.72 pence per litre, the government is actively discussing strategies to stabilize supplies and prices. The fuel-duty freeze remains in place, and Mather urged motorists to remain calm and not succumb to panic buying.

European authorities are evaluating the potential release of emergency reserves to alleviate supply and price pressures. As these discussions unfold, the UK government continues to emphasize its commitment to ensuring fuel availability amid the current challenges.
