These additives are prevalent in packaged and processed foods, serving purposes such as extending shelf life, preserving quality, and enhancing taste. The study observed that individuals with higher exposure to these additives showed a greater likelihood of experiencing hypertension and other cardiovascular conditions.

Experts caution that this does not imply that every product containing these ingredients is inherently dangerous. Instead, it underscores the need for maintaining balanced eating habits. Consistently consuming a high amount of processed foods could elevate health risks, especially when combined with other lifestyle factors. Therefore, it’s important to consider dietary patterns that support heart health.

One approach to promoting better heart health is opting for more whole foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and meals that are minimally processed.
